Glass Mosaic Pool

"As a developer and licensed engineer, I don't mess around and cut corners...we only approve use of the best pool waterproofing and setting materials, thus LATICRETE is our first choice for demanding applications such as continuously submerged water conditions such as glass tile swimming pools.

Attached are a couple pics of the last pool (residential hillside all glass tile infinity edge swimming pool and spa) we did at different stages. We used the LATICRETE Tile Swimming Pools, Fountains and Spas Technical Design Manual as our source for specifications and details.

We first used a cement based waterproofer for negative waterproofing, then 254 Platinum bond coat with mortar bed to render/float shotcrete shell to accept tile. After that everything is LATICRETE....another very thin 254 Platinum bond coat to fill voids in mortar bed, then HYDRO BAN
® liquid waterproofing membrane, 254 Platinum for paper faced glass tile, SPECTRALOCK® Pro epoxy grout and finally LATASIL™ silcone sealant for expansion joints and penetrations. Needless to say it quite a time consuming and expensive process.

Thanks
Sherwin

Ready To Go !
The next generation high performance uncoupling membrane for use under ceramic tile and stone installations. For both residential and commercial applications. Designed to replace traditional underlayment materials. The unique patent pending design of  STRATA_MAT provides for an enhanced mechanical bond of the adhesive mortar and provides for faster drying of the mortar, allowing for shorter time to grout. Specifically designed for use with both modified and unmodified mortars.  STRATA_MAT allows for the proper adhesive mortar to be used with porcelain or large format tiles and stone.

Mortar Hydration Vents - creates a mechanical bond between the mat and adhesive mortar - allows the mortar to cure faster providing a stronger bond of tile at 16 – 24 hours for faster time to grout.
Allows for use of the appropriate mortar per industry standards.
Provides vapor management.
Eliminates transmission of in plane substrate cracks of up to 1/8" (3 mm).
Instant coverage verification - allows for installer to see mortar coverage underneath the mat during installation without having to lift and verify.

Wet Film Thickness Gauge

Email received from a General Contractor:

Henry,

"Wanted to thank you for sending us the wet film thickness gauge a couple weeks ago!  We will be using it for an upcoming high end project (all glass tile swimming pool) later this week.  Its worth its weight in gold knowing my crew can accurately determine HYDRO BAN Membrane thickness, and I can spot check their work also.... Think it would really be great to make them available for purchase thru retailers and distributors, so people apply it to the required specs.  Our supplier never heard of them and thought I was nuts to want one, I will be sure to show it off next time we pick up more HYDRO BAN.

Tiled Swimming Pools

Tiled Swimming Pools
The question of installation sequence comes up quite often when waterproofing membranes are included within a swimming pool / spa installation assembly. Note that we at LATICRETE have very specific installation details that outline the proper sequence of installation.
All leveling / truing up of substrates must be performed prior to the installation of LATICRETE waterproofing membranes.
The waterproofing membrane must be installed over all leveling mortars in these applications. LATICRETE waterproofing membranes perform best when installed directly under the tiled finish layer.

See our Architectural detail P-601 above which indicates the proper sequence of installation. This proper sequence of installation appears in our waterproofing membrane product data sheets.
