FloorHEAT Installation

"I finally had the chance to use the heat mat and grout ……   The heat mat is great and I was impressed at how heavy duty it was and how flexible it was to be able to adapt to its environment.  It is all hooked up and works great!!  The PermaColor grout was good as well  …….. and if I had to choose between ….. it will be Laticrete's PermaColor …..  because of your commitment to customer care.  I believe that is what sets you apart from other companies.

I used 8x16 chiseled edge travertine set with a 1/16 grout joint, I set the heat mat over Fiberrock board and skim coated the heat mat with Laticrete 254.  I then set my tile with Laticrete 220 and grouted with PermaColor antique white."

Norway - Ski Jump

"The Nordic World Championship is to be held in Oslo, Norway next February. We have delivered SpectraLOCK for the tilework in some of the rooms underneath the take off of the jump.

We thought it very appropriate to include this illustration of this new built in 2010 Holmenkollen Ski Jump on our Laticrete 2011 pricelist."

Back In The Office

I've returned to the office after two weeks working with the Laticrete teams in India & Singapore.  Had some interesting adventures.  Received some great "welcomes."  Had an opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for our new Laticrete R&D center in India.

Received a warm welcome at one of our Laticrete dealers in Cochin, India

Hunting

I received an email from a contractor:
" ..... the bull I harvested this year.  Really nice bull, he measures about 355 and notice the Laticrete camo hat!

I shot him Thanksgiving morning about 8:30 and packed him out by myself.  It took me 10 hours to get him out and loaded up on my truck.

Thank you for the hat!"

Email From An Artist

" ....  my own shower, where I surprised my wife and step-daughter with glow-in-the-dark grout. I wish I would have recorded their reaction when I had them stand in front of the shower and then turned of all the lights.  It was amazing to see.  The pebble floor with skipping stones we had collected from our walks to Lake Michigan looked as if they were floating on a sea of light.  The 3-D design on the walls makes you completely lose perspective of the space within the walled boundaries. This idea is key to my designs.  The main concept is to make any confining space seem like an endless universe.

My wife and I are currently turning our house into "A House of Art," where we will be hosting art parties and also using for a design showroom.  See the "myartparties.com" website for more details."

Popular Science Award Winner

For 23 years, Popular Science has honored the innovations that surprise and amaze us − those that make a positive impact on our world today and challenge our views of what’s possible in the future.” said Mark Jannot, Editor-in-Chief of Popular Science. “The Best of What’s New Award is the magazine’s top honor, and the 100 winners − chosen from among thousands of entrants − represent the highest level of achievement in their fields.

WaleTale, recently introduced by Beaton Innovations, LLC, is an innovative new tool designed to significantly reduce dust generated by the mixing of grouts and mortars in buckets. The device clips onto the rim of 5, 3 1/2 or 1 gallon bucket and in companion with a shop vac and HEPA filter allows the tile setter to safely and conveniently mix indoors. WaleTale is the first tool engineered for the tile setter to address the negative effects of the inhalation of free crystalline silica in the work environment.

A Visit To An Architect's Office

I visited an interesting architectural office here in Singapore yesterday.

Upon sitting down to chat I was handed a water bottle by our very friendly & gracious host.  The water bottle contained an interesting quote.  A very appropriate quote for reading in an Architect's office:

"Architecture is inhabited sculpture"
Constantin Brancusi

NEW ANSI REQUIREMENT – TILE INDUSTRY

It is official. The floor flatness requirements in ANSI 108.1 are now 1/8” in 10’ for any tile with an edge of 15” or greater. There is a public comment period on this before it is published, but there shouldn’t be any problem. This tighter requirement helps tile contractors avoid excessive floor preparation and the associated back charges.

OK, so what does this mean ..?  To the architect / designer ...?  To the Owner ..?  To the GC / Builder ...?  To the Tile Sub-Contractor / Installer ..?
