Our Laticrete Field Reps Work On Some Interesting Projects

"A cool tile job that an artist in Taos NM did for a sculptor in El Paso TX, they used Permabase attached to steel. Tile installed over HydroBan with Laticrete 254 Thinset, grouted with Permacolor. Soft movement joints with Latasil.

Pretty cool stuff."

"Hank Saxe & I (Cynthia Patterson) are the artists/ sculptors. We designed the artwork.

Alex Sanchez of the University of New Mexico, Valencia Campus did the 3D computer modeling and Vic Chavez of Chavez and Grieves, Albuquerque, engineered it and contributed design ideas.

Southwest Ironwork, Albuquerque, fabricated the steel sculpture and provided space for us to prep and apply the tile to the work. The principals of the company (Shawn Faught, Rick Kollar, and Calven Hernandez) were very supportive of the project.

Hydro Cut, Inc. of Belen, NM water jet cut the yellow and red tile discs which were preassembled on backer board.

Calven Hernandez delivered the sculpture to El Paso and erected it on the cast concrete base that we built with the assistance of Noe Tapia's Concrete.

Of course, Tim Evans provided advice on products and procedures to use.

Many people were skeptical that we could apply the glass tile, mortar, and grout and truck it 275 miles down the road without damage, but not a piece of tile loosened up, not a crack appeared. Tim had predicted that we would have no such problems and he was right.

The project was commissioned by the City of El Paso Public Art Program of the Museum and Cultural Affairs Division under the guidance of Pat Dalbin and Marisol Lopez. ....and those are just some of the people who contributed.

The sculpture is at the new Downtown El Paso Transit Terminal at 601 S. Santa Fe near the international border crossing into Mexico."
