The Thinbed Method
The "thin bed” method refers to installations of tile with adhesives, dry-set mortars, multipurpose thin-set mortars, latex-fortified Portland cement mortars and epoxy adhesives. Each of these materials is applied with a notched trowel and the adhesive or mortar thickness is approximately 3/32" - 3/16" (2.5mm - 5mm).

Beautiful Custom Project in Hawaii using LATICRETE Materials
"A custom home project we recently completed in beautiful upcountry Maui. Various stone, porcelain, and glass tile were used throughout the home.Every bathroom was a different design and required various types of installation materials.
We used a lot of 4-XLT (especially helpful for the 5/8” thick stone on the master bath shower ceiling!) Also 317 with 333 admix, 253 Gold, and 220 Marble and Granite Mortar.
Glass Tile Adhesive was used for all the glass tile backsplashes and accent rows.
All the showers and tub surrounds were waterproofed with HYDRO BAN and HYDRO BARRIER was used as anti-fracture membrane over the concrete substrate for the bathroom floors.
Six colors of grout were used in PERMACOLOR, 1600 Unsanded with 1776 admix, and SPECTRALOCK epoxy grout for the pebble shower floors. LATASIL 100% silicone for change of plane and movement joints.
The great service from our local Maui LATICRETE distributor- Hawaiian Ceramic Tile (Susan, Sally, Jason, Kel, and Joe) and the excellent advice from some of your top tech people (Art Mintie and Mark Brooks) helped make this project a success."

Isaac Homza

Cracked Tile

Cracked tile on floor in airport
Cracked tile on floor of PBI airport. Installed over brand x crack suppression peel and stick mat! Did the crack telegraph up from the slab or was the crack suppression peel and stick mat so soft, or lack sufficient load bearing capability, that it allowed heavy duty / wheeled carts traffic in an airport to crack the tiles?
My thoughts revolve around the potential that the crack suppression peel and stick mat under the tile work does not have sufficient "load bearing" capability and regular wheeled cart and luggage traffic in the airport simply is cracking some of the tiles !

Why do you think the tiles cracked ?
